A “Fireside Chat” On Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM

The New Chapter of the Living New Deal and the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary are pleased to host a “Fireside Chat” on the artwork of Randall Davey.

The presentation will be given by Kim Straus, who is a volunteer researcher and docent at the Randall Davey Audubon Center. The focus of this presentation will be on the WPA/New Deal Era, when Randall Davey created Post Office Murals in Oklahoma and other artwork in New Mexico.

Randall Vernon Davey (1887 – 1964) was an American painter and art educator. He taught art at several institutions, including the University of New Mexico, and he had his studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His artwork can be seen in museums across the U.S.

  • 1:45pm There will be a brief tour of Davey’s historic home and studio [NOTE: the tour is not ADA accessible]

  • 2:30pm The presentation on Randall Davey
    Refreshments will be served.

1939 tempera painting entitled "Will Rogers", commissioned by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Section of Fine Arts.

The mural is now located in the new Claremore Post Office, 400 W 9th St, Claremore, OK 74017. This building was built in 1987 and is located on the north side of Claremore's downtown. The mural previously hung in the old post office located in downtown Claremore near the Rogers County Courthouse.
