Holiday Giving

Kathy Flynn and the Staff and Board of the New Mexico Chapter of the National New Deal Preservation Association, want to wish you a very joyful Holiday season and offer you some help with Christmas gift ideas!

Tis the season for giving, and during this Holiday season we are asking for your support of the New Mexico Chapter of the National New Deal Preservation Association. You’ll join others committed to preserving the legacy of the New Deal and inspiring public policies that still serve individuals and our society today.

With Your Donation we can continue To:

  • Preserve New Deal Era (aka-the Depression Era 1933-43) visual and performing arts, parks, public buildings in every NM town, literature, music and environmental projects for the enjoyment and economic relief enrichment of all families then. Most are still serving Americans today with valuable sites and items still enjoyable for us today. New Mexico is loaded with such items and places. Example: Do you ever notice the gorgeous murals in post offices, courthouses, schools and universities, etc? Go see them!!!! I bet you may have gotten your marriage license or some official document in a New Deal courthouse wherever?

  • Our current art preservation project in New Mexico is the restoration of the 1937 “Turtle Fountain” at the NM Veterans Nursing Home in TorC, NM. It would go towards the restoration of the interior plumbing so the Fountain’s sculptured animals (turtles, ducks, and frogs) can squirt water again into the pond plus some work on the animal’s exteriors. These were created by Santa Fe New Deal artist, Eugenie Shonnard and currently our veteran patients enjoy sitting being out in the courtyard of the original building (formerly Carrie Tingley Hospital) and visit around the Fountain with other patients and/or particularly when family members come to visit. Help us make that Fountain even more appreciated and enjoyed when it works and looks better again just like we hope the patients are getting care to improve their conditions. Honor our Veterans or one of your own Veteran family members by making a memorial donation.

  • Provide our “Fireside Chat Programs” to educate the public about the accomplishments of the New Deal and its legacy around our state and nation. Previous “Chat” programs are on our interesting website which also includes personal interviews of some of actual NM’s New Deal artists prior to their death. Visit the video tab to view.

  • Encourage State and Federal legislation to preserve other New Deal Era work and its historical impact for future generations.

Additional benefits of being a member:

  • Invitations to our special events highlighting New Deal works, artists, and perspectives

  • Regular updates on our work and its impact in New Mexico and nationally

  • Access to a network of New Deal scholars available for programs in your area plus Photo Exhibits of NM New Deal Art Treasures and written and video resources in our office for students of the New Deal.

We are planning an upcoming Special Celebration!

Plan on joining us in March 2023 when we will be joining Americans nationwide to honor the anniversary of all the New Deal programs that were created as a result of FDR being inaugurated on March 4, 1933. This is the 90th anniversary of FDR’s first inauguration. Details to follow.

Looking forward to hearing from you and possibly helping you with possible Christmas gifts as you help us with support of our valuable ongoing activities.

Respectfully,
Kathryn  A. Flynn, Exec. Director
Brad Wieneke, Admin and Webmaster

Christmas was an important time for the Roosevelts. Our country saw much turmoil and change, throughout these years. However, Christmas was also a time for Family and Friends.

The following are some links we feel may interest you, involving Christmas in the White House.

We also wanted to tell you about a new Quarter, honoring Eleanor Roosevelt that is to be released in 2023, by the US Mint.

Happy Holidays to all
